Daikoku

A rare and humorous study of Daikoku contained within an egg. Is he hatching from the egg, or has he just crawled into a disused one? Who knows, and whatever the answer, it really doesn't matter, as for a couple of hundred years or so, it has been his home and he seems pretty content with the dwelling. He is pointing towards the opening between his legs, which we can only guess that this has some shunga connotation.

He does appear pretty youthful, so perhaps he is being born from his egg and his youth could account for this 'potty' humour.

Attributed to Hidemasa. The artist whose faces are instantly recognisable has borrowed and adjusted the Tengu no Tomago theme which was likely first designed and made by the Ogasawara Issai studio in Kishu. To explain my reasoning for the attribution, I have included a squashed Fukurokuju by Hidemasa to compare the face (Not for sale).
