(Reserved) A bold wood bokuto of a Dragon, with the unusual (and wonderfully functional) feature of spitting liquid from its mouth.
Eyes inlaid in large globes of protruding horn. 54cm Long.
The late great gentleman Mr David White, who I was lucky enough to call a friend owned a near identical (without the spitting feature) bokuto by the artist Hasegawa Ikko, hence the attribution. Ikko, my personal favourite artist carved every conceivable apparatus connected to the obi, including bokuto, as did his presumed master, Minko.
The 'spitting' feature of this example has the deliciously exciting 'touch' of doubling as the hand grip for the apparatus. This would have served as a confidence boosting portion to clamp ones hand to, in the event of a crisis.
