For a netsuke by the same hand please see Discovery 007 part 1 Figure 88. This hand also produced numerous marine teeth netsuke and was a skilled technician in the medium. It is likely they were trained by Ogasawara Issai, thus further likely that training was conducted in the domain of Kishu in the latter part of the 18th Century. However, the prevalence of migration and urbanisation makes it impossible to pinpoint a location with any more accuracy.
