Tonkotsu by Kenya

New

A fine old Tonkotsu. Inlaid with an earthenware Kyusu which rests on an ornate green ceramic tripod stand, flanked by sprigs of flowers and leaves in gold and silver lacquer with further ceramic inlay. The reverse similarly decorated with another sprig of a flower and leaves.

Signed on a green ceramic inlay in seal form; Kenya. Index of Inro artists by Edward Wrangham, page 125 includes this seal and attributes it to Kenya I (1825 - 1829). A migrating artisan, famed in his lifetime. Self proclaimed follower of Ritsuo, it is likely numerous objects sealed with the Kan seal are by Kenya.
